About Veronica TongeVeronica Tonge is the founder of ResponsibleSkiing.com and is dedicated to ensuring that people have a great winter holiday experience – whilst treasuring the mountain environment.
Veronica Tonge loves the mountains! She is an avid skier having skied in over 50 resorts across Europe, the United States and Canada and has visited at least as many in the summer months for hiking. She enjoys visiting small, authentic mountain villages that have retained a real community and experiencing the many other winter activities besides skiing. As a foodie, and rather partial to the odd schnapps, she relishes the opportunity to try all the local delicacies! The challenge of managing mountain resorts both for the benefit of the locals and the environment has always interested her and led to her obtaining a Masters in Responsible Tourism Management at the University of Greenwich with Professor Harold Goodwin. It focussed on achieving responsible tourism in destinations, managing cultural heritage, tourism and conservation in protected areas, social and cultural issues and local economic development. Her particular area of expertise is Responsible Tourism for wintersports and the ski industry and she founded ResponsibleSkiing.com to provide a resource investigating all the issues surrounding the responsible management of ski resorts and ski activity. She now provides consultancy for the Travel Industry and Destinations to help them integrate the principles of Responsible Skiing throughout their business. For more information - see What we offer. She has completed extensive research on the subject, and continues to do so, and has worked with varying countries to understand the complex local issues as well as the wider environmental issues. She has written a number of papers and articles - see Publications - and now speaks internationally on the subject of Responsible Skiing. She has since worked worked with the International Centre for Responsible Tourism, a national tourist board and is the longlister for the Responsible Tourism awards for "Best in a Mountain Environment" category. She is also a Travelife Auditor and works with hotels to reach sustainability accreditation. She has 15 years experience working in a range of global multinational companies in the hotel industry, online travel, car hire, business travel and formerly in the finance industry where she managed a series of website related projects across continents in a range of cultural environments from planning through to final delivery. She also has a First class degreee in Business Management, a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and The Tourism Society. She works with a network of associates and her own combination of Responsible Tourism knowledge, commercial business acumen, marketing and website development gives her all the skills and experience to add value to your business.
