The new Montage Deer Valley, Utah which opened in December 2010 has been awarded Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Fewer than 100 hotels worldwide have achieved LEED certification at Certified Silver, Gold or Platinum levels. The LEED Certification system recognizes innovation in design, site selection, energy efficiency, water efficiency, and indoor environmental quality among other criteria. "Montage Deer Valley's LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership," said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. "The urgency of USGBC's mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Montage Deer Valley serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish." "We saw great potential to transform the once-contaminated Daly West Mine site into a world-class mountain resort destination, designed Montage Deer Valley with a theme reminiscent of the great mountain lodges of North America. " said Jeff Mongan, senior vice president, The Athens Group. Montage agreed to incorporate significant sustainable features such as minimizing waste, preserving open space, and using renewable energy. Veronica adds “Another good example of sustainable building design resulting in a really high quality accommodation destination”. |
